Considering Ubisoft had revealed that the next Assassin’s Creed, which would coincide with some in-game event taking place in 2012, would be the final game for long time Animus user Desmond it makes sense that he would be getting a good chunk of story this time around. Last year’s iteration, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, featured Desmond in some pretty unique gameplay, but ultimately that wasn’t what fans were looking for.

Instead, as Turner explains, Ubisoft is putting a lot of focus on developing the present day locations in Assassin’s Creed 3. There were brief teases of some Desmond free-climbing sequences in the past Assassin’s Creed games, most notably Brotherhood, but nothing has come close to what Ezio or Altair were able to do.

It feels fitting that as gamers are introduced to a new character and a new setting in Assassin’s Creed 3 that one part of the long running franchise would be getting a proper send off. Desmond had long been considered an integral piece to every AC iteration, but apparently that is not the case.

Whatever Ubisoft chooses to do with Desmond Miles, whether they do deliver on the apocalyptic predictions of the series’ storyline or not, we hope that fans aren’t left with some unanswered questions.

How would you like to see Ubisoft conclude the story of Desmond Miles in Assassin’s Creed 3? Should his gameplay, if there is any, be more of the first person sequences or something closer to Brotherhood’s free-running?

Assassin’s Creed 3 releases October 30, 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
