At this point, the announced add-on, “The Ancestors Character Pack,” is only set to deliver new multiplayer characters - possibly another reason why players aren’t freaking out about the announcement.

Following up on the introduction of new multiplayer characters such as The Sentinel, “The Ancestors Character Pack” will bring a new batch of characters into the online arena: the Privateer, the Corsair, the Brigand and the Gladiator. The characters aren’t just “skins” either - as each one features unique moves and weaponry.

Ubisoft has a tough challenge with Assassin’s Creed DLC - as, despite a great multiplayer offering, most players enjoy the game for its campaign and would be more likely to purchase new missions over online-only characters. Who wouldn’t like an epilogue to the game featuring the samurai protagonist from Assassin’s Creed: Embers? However, there’s been outcry in the past over “missing” DNA sequences that players assumed Ubisoft intentionally left out - just to offer as DLC down the line. That said, in games with as much content as the Assassin’s Creed installments, it’s hard to fault developers for campaign DLC, considering the amount of hours worth of content available in the main game (not to mention the bonus multiplayer mode).

The Ancestors Character Pack will be available for download December 13 for $3.99 on the PlayStation Network and 320 Microsoft Points on XBOX LIVE. The first two downloadable content packs are available for pre-order today.

The press release also directly mentions pre-ordering the “first two downloadable content packs” - so, at this point, we already know that more Assassin’s Creed: Revelations content is en route. As a result, it’ll be especially interesting to see what kind of DLC Ubisoft announces for the game in the near future. Which would you prefer multiplayer maps/skins or campaign missions?
