Game critics (read our Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood review) praised the cat and mouse approach of the multiplayer feature - which favored stealth and patience over run-and-gun shooting. The mode continued to present players with a solid experience in the next Assassin’s Creed installment, Revelations, but Ubisoft didn’t iterate on the idea very much - including only minor gameplay additions, customization options, and mechanics....

That’s thanks to a mysterious countdown found on the official site for Assassin’s Creed 3, placed atop a snowy American field which already promises more intrigue and atmosphere than the opening mission of Revelations. The countdown states that on Monday, March 5 at approximately 12:00 EST something will be revealed, although at this point it’s hard to imagine the publisher doing anything but confirming what is already known. It’s hard to think that the veil of mystery surrounding the third installment of the Assassin’s Creed saga was lifted as Ubisoft had hoped, even if they, too, joined in the rush of released information by then end....

Even though the launch of Unity was disappointing for many, Assassin’s Creed is still a powerhouse franchise among gamers - with over 20 titles bearing the name, the AC empire is here to stay. In fact, with the plethora of titles already out and the many more that are sure to come, the studio continues to expand the experience players have with the games and each other. And that’s where Assassin’s Creed Initiates comes in....

However, with all the talk of story, it’s sometimes easy to forget that Assassin’s Creed is, first and foremost, a game series. To that end, following on the heals of the incredibly cinematic Assassin’s Creed Revelations trailer at E3, Ubisoft has released an equally impressive gameplay trailer for Gamescom 2011. While we know that Altair and Ezio’s respective stories will be tied-together and polished-off in Assassin’s Creed Revelations, there’s no doubt that Assassin’s Creed 3 is already in development - and will continue the over-arching story that’s been established in the previous installments....

Although the Assassin’s Creed franchise is probably best known for it’s free-running, free-stabbing, free-roaming gameplay, it’s also possible to learn quite a lot about world history through the storylines and the extensive glossary entries on each place and person encountered. The games have featured prominent historical figures like Leonardo da Vinci, Robert de Sablé and Rodrigo Borgia, and the protagonists have been present at a great number of major historical events (particularly so in the case of Connor Kenway, who was like an 18th century Forrest Gump)....

Not only were they able to catch a first look glimpse of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations gameplay, Rubenstein actually witnessed all of it in 3D. His response, “those leaps of faith are now even more impressive.” He doesn’t go any further in regards to the 3D presentation as he wanted to focus on answering fan questions which had a lot to do with the mechanics and features of the game....

From demos and walkthroughs, it seems the hack and slash battling that PlatinumGames is known for returns but bringing it to the next level as players will have to control their character and Legion at the same time....
