Funimation confirmed the 2020 release date window on its press release when it announced that Attack on Titan Final Season will stream on its platform in the U.S. Canada, the UK, Ireland, Mexico and Brazil later this year. Japanese-language episodes with English subtitles will be released the same day they premiere on Japanese broadcast in the U.S. Canada, the UK and Ireland with dubbed episodes arriving in the other territories at a later date....

With that in mind, it looks like a safe bet that Ascendance is a motion comic or perhaps even a cartoon that will help flesh out or transition into the story of Brotherhood....
