Experiencing some kind of tragic loss appears to be a prerequisite for the historical protagonists of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. From Ezio Auditore watching his family being horribly killed, to Connor Kenway watching his mother being horribly killed, it’s amazing that these heroes can manage to scale such tall buildings with all the emotional baggage that’s weighing them down. Assassin’s Creed: Unity, the upcoming title set in revolutionary Paris, will introduce a new protagonist in Arno Dorian: a member of the Assassin brotherhood who loses his father at a young age and is raised by a high-ranking member of the Templar Order....

With Unity forgoing previous consoles to make the most of the Xbox One and PS4 both visually and technically, it seems fitting that the French publisher would save such an upgrade for a historical event as significant as the French Revolution (1989-1799). The developers remain tight-lipped in the lead up to what we can assume will be an extensive reveal at E3 2014, but a Twitter user has let yet another cat out of the bag, revealing the first promotional image of retailer-exclusive DLC content....

According to the developer, the three-week period since Assasssin’s Creed III’s official reveal has seen a surge in pre-orders, eclipsing Assassin’s Creed Revelations by a tenfold margin in the same time frame. Ezio Auditore’s final chapter is still the overall record holder for the series’ pre-orders, but Ubisoft anticipates that AC III will surpass that figure in June. We still await official details from the studio, but from what’s been leaked thus far, Black Flag will be set in the Caribbean Sea circa 1715, with a brand new ‘part-time pirate’ protagonist....

Episode 4 of the final season of Attack on Titan aired Sunday, December 27. Since the premiere of the fourth season on December 6, a new episode has premiered in Japan and then a few hours later on anime streaming services like Crunchyroll and Funimation each Sunday. That would suggest that the premiere of the fifth episode of Attack on Titan’s new season would be set for Sunday, January 3....

But now that it’s here, eight years after the anime first aired, the voice actors told Newsweek it is going to be a “bittersweet” farewell when they finish recording the dub for Season 4 Part 2, which launches on Funimation on Sunday, February 13. Saying Goodbye to an Iconic Franchise Papenbrook, who portrays Eren Jaeger in the anime, said it was “appropriate” for the show to end now, but said that while it was sad he would still enjoy it....

Set in the mythical land of Myrtana, Arcania: Gothic 4 puts you in the greaves of a nameless hero as he awakens on the edge of small village in which he herds his sheep and otherwise leads a simple life. The opening cinematic for the game has now surfaced, and makes it clear just how important Desmond’s role truly is. Not just to the series, but the fate of humanity. Narrated by William Miles, the opening scene summarizes everything that has happened so far, from Desmond’s running away from home to the final moments of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations....

Fortunately, those still playing on their Xbox 360 and PS3 received word that they wouldn’t be left behind. Assassin’s Creed Rogue returns to the shores (and waters) of North America, and after playing the game for ourselves, a chance to fight on the other side of the Assassin/Templar conflict won’t be the only reason to pay attention come release. Fans didn’t know quite what to expect from the previous-gen release, but the developers made the basic premise quite clear with its cinematic announcement trailer: players step into the role of Shay Patrick Cormac, a former Assassin turned Assassin Hunter in the North Atlantic....

We went hands-on with Rogue at a recent preview, but thanks to Gamescom, the public can now watch new hero Shay Patrick Cormac advancing the Templar cause on both land and sea. And if fans of Black Flag weren’t sure that a shift in allegiance was enough to warrant a standalone game, this video should help make up their minds....
